Felix's Oyster Bar- Gulfport, Mississippi

ROAD TRIP! Took myself out of NOLA for the weekend to check out Felix's Oyster Bar . I love the one in NOLA and heard they recently one a location n Mississippi so it was time for a beach trip. People ask me all the time what my favorite food is and every time I take forever trying to answer. But-- it always ends the same. SEAFOOD. OYSTERS. So of course, I was gonna order a lot of oyster-related items.. Started off with their charbroiled oysters. And I gotta say-- I love gulf oysters. they are BIG and flavorful! Can't go wrong with butter and garlic. Then I got some raw oysters because duh. It is hard to mess up raw oysters- And I do not want to experience a mess up of raw oysters, EVER. Next the fried calamari came out. I have not eaten those in a while, more so as a child. I was happy for them to have a comeback in my life. There was a lot of fried batter, but when you order fried food like that, that can be expected. The seafood gumbo was also a hit. Great portion size and a taste of everything. It wasn't a super hot summer night, so the gumbo was a good idea-- I'm usually not one to get hot soup when its hot, maybe thats just me!

I know I know this is a lot of food and I am not even finished explaining what I got-- I do admit I took my parents, soooo this food did NOT go to waste. We also got the Felix Special poboy, which is my 2 favorite things on a poboy (besides roast beef) fried oyster and fried shrimp. Last but not least we got some boiled Royal Reds! They tasted like little lobsters. I had never had them before because they aren't always in season. Boy-- this was THE time to get them. juicy, cooked PERFECTLY.  I would 100% recommend ordering Royal Reds if you go. It is a must. Not pictured- Bread pudding for dessert. It was all a nod to NOLA cuisine and I respect that. Great view of the beach and Mississippi sound. So if you ever see the desire to hit the beach, try the Mississippi Gulf Coast and check this place out!! Tell 'em Evie Eats sent you ;)

Cafe Soule and the Paris Room.

Located in the French Quarter, this French inspired restaurant has all the fun. Great location with all the history a New Orleanian and tourist could want. I would 100% recommend getting a tour of the place, it is beautiful! No onto the food-- I ordered the special at the moment: Oysters Rockefeller, French Onion soup, Crawfish Étouffée, and the Duck Confit crêpe with fries.

(Duck Crêpe: Savory crêpe filled with duck confit, grilled onions, spinach and your choice of cheese, with raspberry wine reduction for dipping and French Fries. Crawfish étouffée: Seasoned crawfish coupled with a French Cajun etouffee sauce and rice, Traditional. French Onion Soup: Traditional slow-cooked French Onion topped with French bread and melted Provolone.) Don't know what Oysters Rockefeller are? Here is a basic definition from Wikipedia: Oysters Rockefeller consists of oysters on the half-shell that have been topped with various other ingredients (often parsley and other green herbs, a rich buttersauce and bread crumbs) and are then baked or broiled.

My favorite? The French onion soup. Personally its one of my favorite soups to order and I had the most fun with the cheese. It wasn't too much cheese and really was great. Honestly I'd come back just for the soup 100%. I sat almost outside and had the pleasure to witness the ever fun wedding second line. Great energy, great food, a great time it was. Here is the menu.

Josephine Estelle

Last night I had the pleasure of trying out Josephine Estelle's new spring 2017 menu... and it was SO GOOD! I normally am not a pasta eater. I mean, I love pasta as much as the next kid, but rarely do I ever actually end up ordering it out. Game changer. The pastas were TO DIE FOR. I googled the pasta types because I am no expert but I also don't mind being surpised with what pasta comes out. I was very much pleasantly surprised. We started off with some sparkling rosè and their wine list is fantastic. To start I would recommend the pork belly or the tuna crudo. I need to come back and try out more of there pastas. OH and dessert? So much to offer-- simply a glance at the menu does not do it justice. I enjoyed it all-- See for yourself with these images.

Dante's Kitchen

I recently went to Dante's Kitchen, with a few other fellow NOLA foodies! It was all organized by @nowneworleans (Check out her instagram and her awesome site here!) Here are just SOME of the pics from the yummy event! I was really impressed, the food was so good, from start to end. The restaurant is hidden away, but really is a gem. I had previously never been to Dante's kitchen, but grew up getting my hair cut right around that area. I tried the escargot for the 1st time, and was not disappointed. I mean, garlic and butter on top of bone marrow? How could I not like escargot with all of that flavor! The veggies were also a hit, everything tasted fresh and was delighted to h that it was all grown locally. With that being said, I was even more pleased when learning that the grits from their shrimp and grits small plate were stone ground and from South Carolina! (I went to college at the University of South Carolina and let me tell ya, they know what they are doing with their stone ground grits!) I would recommend this restaurant to friends and family to check out. Next time, I got to eat outside! Here is their website & full menu: http://danteskitchen.com

Bywater Bakery

Newly opened bakery in the Bywater is the place to be!  Yummy sweets& other good treats--This place also has some really good savory dishes. I think the best cookie I've ever eaten was from here. No joke. Yummy egg salads, my favorite was their potato salad which has pesto in it, YUM! check it out! Really good, really cute. I recommend getting the shrimp&grits, a must if you are on the go-- they put it all in a to-go cup!

Yes- I am aware that this is a chain, and I am not the biggest fan of chain restaurants (Team #eatlocal). However, the food photographed really well. That being said, the food did not taste as good as it looks, will  have to try again another time. Photographed by Kate Friedler
